Did you know?

In the past, Avignon locals would dance in the guinguettes on the eastern arm of the Rhône, which surrounds the Ile de la Barthelasse from the Avignon side. Hence the nuance in the famous song: “Under the bridge of Avignon (not “on”), we dance, we dance…” A true green lung of the city, meander during a bucolic moment along the small roads amid the orchards. Much of the island’s banks are also classified as a Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic, and Floristic Interest. They shelter numerous species: nesting birds, grey herons, mallards, cormorants, hedgehogs, dormice, and beavers…

Le conseil du Prieuré Before taking the return shuttle, stop on the towpath for magnificent photos of the Pont d'Avignon, the Rocher des Doms, or the Palais des Papes. The view is breathtaking!
